Customer Objectives
Northumbrian Water Group’s existing dual-flow band screens did not meet the fish-protection requirements of the Eels (England and Wales) Regulations 2009. The water screens were also difficult to access. This caused safety concerns for workers, increased the downtime and labor requirements, and raised operational costs at the facility.
Hydrolox Execution
Northumbrian Water Group chose four Hydrolox Series 6000 Mesh Top fish exclusion screens based on positive experiences with our equipment at multiple sites. They trusted the technology to provide a reliable, long-term solution that would meet all applicable fish-protection requirements while helping secure the water supply.
Results
The new screens’ fish exclusion capabilities ensure 100% regulatory compliance, protecting delicate species without sacrificing water flow or availability. With Hydrolox water screens, all maintenance takes place above deck—this eliminates access issues, simplifies maintenance, and improves worker safety. Overall, the facility is satisfied with a proven water intake solution that is safer, more compliant, and more reliable than other options.
